"Beyond Borders goes beyond the aircraft and the seat," said Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves. "It is about the entire journey – our cabins, lounges, food, wellbeing, connectivity and the way we look after our guests."

What the A330neo Offers

The A330neo will feature a three-cabin layout consisting of First, Business, and Economy – notably, Etihad continues to forgo a dedicated Premium Economy cabin on this aircraft.

First Class will consist of four suites at the front of the cabin, each with a closing door for privacy, a 32-inch screen, wireless charging, dedicated compartments, and a personal powder station stocked with amenities.

Business Class will offer 24 forward-facing, fully lie-flat seats, each with direct aisle access and a sliding door. Business passengers will get a 17.3-inch screen, wireless and wired charging, a large table, and dedicated personal storage.

Economy will hold 252 seats in total, including a dedicated 32-seat Extra Legroom section offering four inches of additional pitch over standard economy. Economy seats will feature Etihad's fixed-wing headrest design, 13.3-inch 4K touchscreens, and personal charging at every seat.

"Now we are taking the next step," Neves said of the A330neo unveiling. "At ATM, our new A330 brings Beyond Borders to life with an all-new cabin experience."

The A321LR: Already Flying, Now Getting a Design Refresh

Unlike the A330neo, the A321LR is not a new addition to Etihad's fleet – the airline has already taken delivery of 12 A321LR aircraft. It was Etihad's first single-aisle aircraft to offer lie-flat premium seating, featuring both First Class suites at the very front of the cabin and fully lie-flat Business Class seating with closing doors, matching privacy standards passengers typically expect on widebody aircraft.

What's new is that the "Beyond Borders" design language debuting on the A330neo will now be extended to the A321LR across all three of its cabin classes – First, Business, and Economy – creating a more consistent look and feel across Etihad's fleet. Economy seats on the A321LR do not include the fixed headrest design used on the A330neo.

The A321LR has an extended range of up to 4,000 nautical miles (roughly 7,400 kilometers), allowing Etihad to serve longer, thinner routes with a single-aisle aircraft rather than deploying a widebody. "The A321LR showed what is possible when we challenge the expected model of narrowbody flying," Neves said. "We brought First and fully lie-flat Business to a single-aisle aircraft and guests have responded strongly to the experience it offers, actively choosing to fly on the aircraft."

Design and Materials

Etihad worked with design partners to create a look inspired by the landscape and heritage of the United Arab Emirates. The color palette leans on warm neutrals, with textured surfaces evoking desert sand and traditional architecture, alongside cabin lighting designed to help passengers adjust across time zones.

The redesign also marks a shift in Etihad's material choices: the airline previously used dark brown seat materials with cream and beige surrounds in its premium cabins, and the new design language largely swaps that color balance, emphasizing lighter surrounding materials against the seating.

A Broader Investment in Premium Travel

The cabin unveiling is part of a larger $20 billion investment Etihad is making in its Beyond Borders program, which includes a $1 billion fleet retrofit initiative. First Class is set to play an expanded role in Etihad's fleet strategy, with the airline saying it plans to increase the number of First seats across its network over the next five years through both new aircraft and retrofit programs. Etihad's First Apartments and The Residence, its flagship suites on the Airbus A380, will remain the airline's most exclusive premium products.

The push comes as Etihad works toward a broader goal of doubling its fleet and tripling passenger numbers by 2030, following several years of restructuring. The airline has been adding aircraft, expanding its route network, and positioning itself as a premium option in a competitive Gulf market that also includes Emirates and Qatar Airways.

What Comes Next

The Beyond Borders design language will roll out progressively across the fleet through new aircraft deliveries and retrofit programs on aircraft already in service, including the A321LR.

For passengers, the new cabins represent a meaningful expansion of Etihad's premium offering, particularly the introduction of First Class suites on the A330neo and the extension of the airline's single-aisle long-haul premium concept, first proven on the A321LR, to a wider part of its widebody network.
