United Airlines announced the launch of nonstop flights between Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport (GUM) in Guam and Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) on May 1. United will use its Boeing 737-800 aircraft for this year-round service, accommodating 166 passengers, including 16 in business class.
The route will be United's second service to Tokyo from its Guam hub after a route serving Tokyo's other airport: Narita Airport (NRT). United's newly announced Tokyo-Haneda service will add to the airline's 32 weekly flights connecting Guam and Tokyo-Narita.
Patrick Quayle, United's Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning Alliances, said about the route:
"As we grow our global network, we're always looking for opportunities to give our customers more choices and strengthen links between countries. This route connecting Tokyo's most convenient airport with our unique Guam hub - accomplishes just that. I appreciate the support of the Department of Transportation in recognizing the importance of this route to our customers and stakeholders."
The flight will depart from Guam at 7:00 p.m. and arrive at Tokyo-Haneda at 10:00 p.m. local time the same day. The return route will leave Tokyo-Haneda at 11:55 p.m. and arrive in Guam at 4:45 a.m. local time the next day.

This announcement comes one day after American Airlines announced direct flights between New York (JFK) and Tokyo-Haneda. With the approval of the slot, American Airlines continues to be the only carrier between New York-JFK and Tokyo-Haneda. United is also waiting for government approval before officially initiating this route.
United will now offer six daily flights to Tokyo-Haneda from its hub airports: Chicago-O'Hare (ORD), Guam, Los Angeles (LAX), Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), and Washington-Dulles (IAD). The airline also operates ten daily flights to Tokyo-Narita from Denver (DEN), Houston-Intercontinental (IAH), LAX, Guam, and Saipan (SPN). United offers more seats from the U.S. to Tokyo than any other U.S. airline.
