What it is like trying to keep your feet off the ground during a flight for several hours? A woman had to experience just that during a flight with Air Canada, in which water from a leaking restroom was allegedly flowing right in front of her seat.

The Outhouse Of Horror

Tik Tok user Katie Wood and her family was aboard an Air Canada flight from Vienna, Austria to Toronto, Canada. She uploaded a three-minute video Link documenting the situation she claimed she had to deal with aboard the flight back home.

Her experience with Air Canada started off on a sour note when she paid $170 CAD for a "Premium Economy" upgrade, but was placed in the regular economy cabin on the flight to Austria.

While flying back to Canada, however, she noticed fluid coming from the cabin's restroom flowing around her feet. In the first few moments of her video, she shows footage of her seat on the aircraft, showing a large, watery puddle in front of her and a member of her family.

“On the long leg back, their toilet was overflowing in our foot space, and we had to keep our feet off the ground for the entirety of the flight so that it wouldn’t be in whatever was coming out of the bathroom...We were sitting in bathroom crap...Not literal crap. I think that would be disgusting."

She and her loved one were compelled to keep their feet off the ground until the flight was over. While it wasn't specified when they noticed the floor dampening, the flight was said to be nine and a half hours long.

Wood got the attention of a flight attendant, who she recalls replying “I’m so sorry. We know this is horrible. There’s nowhere else we can move you". She recalls the attendant also told her they were going to let customer service know and that the airline was going to work to "make this right".

A "Repulsive" Offer

After communicating with Air Canada's customer service, Wood claims the airline was only going to offer her a 20% or 25% discount towards her next flight booking. She declined, stating that she doesn't fly frequently and isn't interested in flying with Air Canada in the future.

She made it clear to the airline she wants a refund, not only for the messy trip to Canada, but for the trip from Canada for the Premium Economy seats she didn't get.

Regarding the initial flight, she says customer service didn't believe her and asked for her boarding pass, which she says she no longer has because she's been waiting to hear back from the company for over a month.

Wood then reads one of Air Canada's more recent emails to her:

“The goodwill compensation offered was for the inconvenience you experienced due to the washroom issue. While we realize this does not meet your expectation, we earnestly hope you will accept this [discount] in the manner it was intended. Respectfully, we are unable to offer additional compensation as requested.”

As of Friday morning, the situation remains unresolved. Her video on Tik Tok has since amassed 1.2 million views.

So is Wood entitled to getting a refund for being seated over flowing toilet water? Not likely. Because she still was able to fly back to Canada, and the wet floor didn't pose a risk to her, the situation doesn't warrant a refund, as Air Canada's refund policy doesn't specify this as a refund-worthy situation Link. She should have certainly just asked for a towel if she didn't. Considering the situation was more dramatic than life-threatening, she is fortunate to be offered some form of compensation from Air Canada.

As for her Premium Economy tickets to Vienna, she had a better case to get a refund if she focused her efforts on this flight more than the return flight. Since she didn't hold onto her boarding pass and apparently didn't have any proof she was placed in regular economy seats, she's out of luck in this respect. On the bright side, she can certainly earn some money back from her plane tickets if her TikTok videos are monetized.

What do you think of her qualms with Air Canada? Does she deserve a refund for her plane tickets? Let us known in the comments section.

Mark Not the least bit surprised. A well- managed company would look at the PR side of this rather than the letter of the law and give the passenger the benefit of the doubt. Air Canada has fallen to near the bottom of the quality rankings in North America.
