Japan has been a very affordable place for tourists to visit for quite some time, but Japan Airlines is making things even better for international travelers with free domestic flights. This move can certainly make Japan a top go-to destination for as long as this offer is present.
Fly Free From Tokyo To Tarama
Starting this month, Japan Airlines is offering free domestic flights for international customers. When customers fly to Japan on a stopover, they can take a domestic flight to another destination in the country free of charge. So if you been yearning to visit a specific prefecture in Japan, you can fly there as soon as you land in one of Japan Airlines' hub airports in Tokyo or Osaka.
This deal applies to customers that book the international and stopover flights simultaneously. So if you want to visit Aomori, for instance, you'll need to set up a booking that will take you to Tokyo or Osaka, first, and then opt to book a connecting flight to Aomori Airport before you finalize the order.
Japan Airlines has a domestic network of 64 different airports throughout Japan, making it easy for travelers to get to specific destinations without having to rely on other means of transportation.
Here are the departing countries that currently qualify for this deal:
- United States
- Canada
- Mexico
- Thailand
- Singapore (starting September 18)
- Australia (starting September 19)
- New Zealand (starting September 19)
- Vietnam (starting September 25)
- The Philippines (starting September 25)
- China (starting September 27)
- India (starting September 27)
- Taiwan (starting September 27)
- Indonesia (starting September 27)

Japan Airlines does business in additional countries not included in this list, such as England, Germany, and South Korea, so it remains to be seen if this deal will open up to more countries in the future.
International travelers on these domestic flights will also have free checked luggage. Customers in the economy and premium economy classes can take up to two bags that weigh up to 50 pounds each. For business and first class customers, this baggage limit is extended to three bags and 70 pounds per bag.

What To Watch Out For
This is considered a very attractive deal for those that want to explore Japan's less frequented towns and prefectures, but certain travelers might be faced with a fine if they plan to stay in Tokyo or Osaka for a while.
Travelers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China will need to pay a stopover fee of $100 if they intend to stay in the hub city longer than 24 hours. The airline states that travelers coming from other countries don't have to pay this fee, with no reason being given.
It's also worth noting that tourists in Japan can also consider riding a bullet train that can travel as fast as 200 mph. If you're looking to visit multiple destinations throughout Japan, the train might be more convenient for you, as the Japan Airlines domestic flight deal is only good for one flight. Travelers can click here to purchase one-, two-, or three-week passes.

This deal from Japan Airlines only applies to travelers that enter the country, so the airline currently doesn't offer free flights back to the hub airport on your trip back home, but it's nice to know this can be an option for those that travel to specific places in Japan.
Even though Japan Airlines is advertising free domestic flights, it's certainly going to help the airline and its affiliates make more money with more travelers needing help flying back home. Nonetheless, individuals and families looking to plan an adventure in Japan can still see this as a big money-saver knowing that one of these flights will be complementary.

Japan has long been an affordable destination? Quite the opposite. When's the last time you priced out an itinerary there? Hotels, trains, dining, all VERY expensive in today's world. A great place to visit, but hardly affordable.
