ZIPAIR Bridges the Pacific with Historic First Direct Flights Connecting Tokyo and Orlando

History was made on the tarmac of Orlando International Airport yesterday as ZIPAIR Tokyo’s inaugural flight from Japan successfully touched down, establishing the first-ever nonstop passenger link between the Asia-Pacific region and the state of Florida. The arrival of flight ZG714 at 1:35 p.m. marks a watershed moment for the "Theme Park Capital of the World," finally closing a transpacific gap that aviation leaders have targeted for decades.

Operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the 7,250-mile journey from Tokyo Narita (NRT) is now the longest route in ZIPAIR’s growing network. The low-cost subsidiary of Japan Airlines (JAL) is testing the waters with a series of high-profile charter flights that many industry analysts believe will pave the way for permanent scheduled service.

A Milestone Thirty Years in the Making

The significance of the new "air bridge" was reflected in the grand reception at MCO’s state-of-the-art Terminal C, where the aircraft was greeted by a traditional water salute and live music. For local authorities, the flight represents the culmination of a multi-generational diplomatic and economic effort to connect two of the world’s most iconic tourism hubs.

"Today's arrival of ZIPAIR's Flight 714 is the culmination of promoting Orlando as a viable route for the past 30 years," stated Vicki Jaramillo, Chief Commercial Officer for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA). "This work could not have been done without the incredible Air Service Development team and partners... who remained steadfast in recruiting an airline to service the Asia Pacific."

Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the broader cultural and economic implications.

"This arrival marks a special partnership with ZIPAIR and a special moment in Orlando International's history," Lyttle said."Orlando and Tokyo are two of the world's most visited destinations. I am hopeful that this connection will help to enrich cultural ties and create more opportunities for robust economic activity."

The "Disney Effect" and Passenger Experience

The launch is strategically timed to capitalize on the deep-rooted "Disney connection" between the two cities. In partnership with Disney Destinations International, ZIPAIR passengers on these flights receive exclusive perks at Walt Disney World Resort, including private character greetings and reserved viewing for EPCOT’s nighttime spectacular, Luminous: The Symphony of Us.

The Boeing 787-8 used for the route is configured with 290 seats, featuring 18 of ZIPAIR’s signature "Full-Flat" seats and 272 "Standard" economy seats. By offering a premium product at a budget-friendly price point, the carrier aims to democratize long-haul transpacific travel.

"We are extremely proud of this historic achievement, as this will be the first non-stop charter flight from Japan to Orlando, Florida," said Shingo Nishida, President of ZIPAIR Tokyo. "By operating these charter flights for travelers from Japan, we hope to meet our customers' expectations when they experience ZIPAIR's new standard in air travel."

Air Operations and Schedule

The current operation consists of four round-trip charter flights scheduled throughout late February and early March 2026. These flights are being used to gauge demand and operational feasibility for a potential year-round service.

Looking Ahead to Permanent Service

While the current flights are classified as charters, the rapid sell-out of tickets in both the Japanese and U.S. markets suggests a robust appetite for the route. Industry insiders note that if these initial "test" flights maintain high load factors, ZIPAIR could move to transition Orlando into a permanent destination by the 2026-2027 winter schedule, potentially placing it alongside its other North American hubs like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Houston.
