Brazilian aerospace company Embraer has been busy at this year's Paris Airshow as the company secures orders for 38 aircraft. Besides this, Embraer has also made a deal to bring a new seat design to its E-jet family.
Binter Orders Six E195-E2s
The deal, valued at USD $504.7 billion, will bring the total number of E195-E2s to 16 in the Binter Canarias fleet. This will allow the airline to continue its expansion into and growth in the Spanish and European market. The first E195-E2 was delivered to Binter in November of 2019.
The introduction of the aircraft into the airline's fleet allowed Binter to launch routes from its Gran Canaria (LPA) hub to destinations not previously possible such as Venice (VCE) and Palma De Mallorca (PMI). According to Embraer, deliveries from the new aircraft order will not begin until mid-to-late 2024, when all of Binter's previous orders for the E195-E2 are expected to be fulfilled by Embraer.
According to the President of Binter Rodolfo Núñez, "The E2 has been a game-changer for Binter. Performance in terms of Fuel burn and maintenance has also been better than advertised...the E2 has proved to be the perfect aircraft to lead our continued growth."
Compared to the Embraer E190 and E195 - the previous generations of E-jet that the E2 generation is replacing - the E190-E2 and E195-E2 has a range of 500 miles more than the previous generation as well as increased fuel efficiency.
American Airlines Orders Seven E175's For Envoy Air Subsidiary.
The deal is valued at USD $403.4 million. Deliveries of the seven E175s are expected to begin in Q4 of 2023 (October-December). The order is going to be included in Embraer's Q2 (April-June) backlog. Envoy's fleet is expected to grow to 141 Embraer aircraft by the end of 2024.
Since the introduction of the E-jet into the North American market in 2005, the jet has proved crucial to connectivity between hubs and small U.S. towns and cities. This is due to the jet's fuel-efficiency, combined with lower cost of operating on the airline's part. Many U.S. regional airlines subsidiaries are retiring their older E145 jets and replacing them with the E175 due to its higher fuel efficiency.
"Our journey with Embraer began 25 years ago with the ERJ145 and our partnership continues to grow today as we take these additional aircraft and grow our all E-jet fleet...the jet's outstanding performance and reliability has allowed us to continue to provide excellent service...[to] the thousands of customers we serve every day." states Pedro Fábregas, the president and CEO of Envoy Air.
"We thank American Airlines and Envoy Air for their long partnership with Embraer...It's hard to exaggerate the impact this hardworking aircraft has every day, delivering essential, dependable service, and an economic lifeline to communities across the North American market..." states Arjan Meijer, CEO and president of Embraer Commercial Aviation.
Customer That Ordered 15 E195-E2's is Disclosed - Azorra
Aircraft lessor Azorra made the order for 15 E195-E2s in January 2023. The order was announced by Embraer, but the name of the company that ordered the E2s was not disclosed until today at the Paris Airshow - Azorra. The leasing company ordered six E2s for Royal Jordanian and nine for Singaporean low-cost-carrier Scoot. Azorra and Embraer also announced the purchase by Azorra of 10 additional E2s for Malay carrier SKS Airways. The deal is currently valued at USD $1.2 billion and has been added to Embraer's Q4 2022 back-log.
"Azorra has made a big impact on our market in a short time. They are proving to be great partners for Embraer and our airline customers. As the global leader in regional aircraft, Embraer is pleased to see the momentum our market is enjoying; thanks to Azorra for their help in building opportunities we are seeing across the world." said Martyn Holmes, CCO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.
"Azorra has a long-standing partnership with Embraer and owns and manages a portfolio (including our orderbook) of more than 100 Embraer E1, E2, and Phenom aircraft, asking Azorra one of the largest lessor of Embraer aircraft..." states Ron Baur, President of Azorra.
Porter to Acquire 10 more E195-E2s Through Leasing Company Avolon
Avolon signed a sale and leaseback agreement with Porter Airlines today for the 10 new E2s. The deal is valued at USD $841.2 million. According to Embraer and Porter, these additional aircraft will support Porter's continuing expansion into the Canadian and North American markets. The E2s, while not the first to join Porter's fleet, will be the first E2s to join the Avolon fleet.
Porter is a strong customer of Embraer, with the airline having 50 firm orders for the E195-E2 as well as options for 50 more E2s. With these orders, Porter is not only looking to expand, but replace its rapidly aging fleet of 29 Bombardier DASH 8 Q400s.
"The E2 is an incredible addition to Porter's fleet, offering best-in-class seat cost economics and providing an ideal platform to deliver the truly differentiated in-flight economy passenger experience that Porter is known for...We are excited to partner with Avolon and value their reputation and expertise in aircraft leasing, which makes them an ideal new partner." comments Jeffrey brown, Executive Vice President and CFO of Porter Airlines.
Embraer Partners with RECARO to Develop Seats for all E-jets and E2 Aircraft
The partnership with RECARO aims to develop a "Supplier Furnished Equipment (SFE) catalogue of seats for E1 and E2 aircraft." According to Embraer, the catalogue will include RECARO bestselling BL3710 and SL371 economy class seat designs, which airlines will be able to modify for "linefit and retrofit configurations."
Development of the new catalogue of seats with RECARO is set to begin in Q3 2023, with the seats coming on offer for airlines in mid-2024.
"Embraer choosing Recaro to provide seats for the catalogue is a nod to our strong partnership and how well our high-quality product work together to elevate the passenger experience..." states Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating and Recaro Holding.
"Joining forces with Recaro Aircraft Seating means Embraer can offer more alternatives to our customers, making our products even more attractive. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to enhancing the passenger experience and delivering unparalleled value to our clients. The Recaro seats add another dimension to our interiors, more choice, and less weight for our customers and more comfort and amenities for their passengers." states Robert Chaves, the Chief Procurement Officer at Embraer.
With these new partnerships, and piles of orders, the future of Embraer is looking promising.
