International travel is back in action and as the summer season quickly approaches, United Airlines is feeling the huge rise in demand. The airline has reported that international bookings are up by 15 percent compared to last year and as such, it is ramping up international flying by 25 percent to meet this demand.
As it stands, United Airlines will serve 114 international destinations this summer, further solidifying the airline's stance as the largest carrier across the Atlantic and Pacific.

New Route Additions
Part of United's massive international push involves the addition of six new routes, some of which are resumptions to cities previously served by the airline.
Here is the full list of the six new routes United will be operating this summer and beyond, one of which has already begun:
| Route | Frequency | Launch Date | Aircraft | Remarks |
| Newark to Dubai | Daily | March 25 | 777-200ER | This marks the first time since 2016 that United is serving Dubai. |
| San Francisco to Rome | Daily | May 25 | 777-200ER | N/A |
| Chicago to Shannon | Daily | May 25 | 757-200 | Seasonal; joins existing service from EWR. |
| Chicago to Barcelona | Daily | May 25 | 787-8 | Seasonal; Joins existing service from Newark and Washington Dulles. |
| Washington-Dulles to Berlin | Daily | May 25 | 767-400 | Joins existing service from Newark. |
| Newark to Stockholm | Daily | May 27 | 757-200 | This route was last served in 2019. |
In addition to these new adds, United also added a second daily service between Los Angeles and London on the Boeing 787-9, bringing the airline to 23 daily flights to London this summer. United will further add a second daily service between Washington Dulles and Paris from June 2nd operated by the 777-200ER.

Seasonal Service Resumptions
Even during the height of the pandemic, United showed no signs of decreasing its international presence. A notable add came in June 2022 when it inaugurated service between Washington Dulles and Amman, Jordan; the first time it ever served the Kingdom. That route will be one of many seasonal services resuming this summer, along with the following:
- Newark to Nice, France
- Newark to Ponta Delgada/Azores, Portugal
- Newark to Palma de Mallorca, Spain
- Newark to Tenerife, Spain
- Denver to Munich, Germany
- Boston to London Heathrow, UK
- Chicago to Zurich, Switzerland
- Chicago to Milan, Italy

Additional Frequencies
Further on United’s massive summer agenda is adding additional frequencies to its seasonal Newark to Edinburgh and Newark to Naples routes. A second daily service between Newark and Edinburgh, Scotland will run from May 25 to October 25th, while another second daily frequency will be added between Newark and Naples, Italy from June 23 to September 7th.
Asia-Pacific Expansion
The Asia-Pacific region was one of the hardest hit during the pandemic and it was the last region of the world to see American carriers resuming flights. United’s plan for this summer sees its Asia-Pacific network frequencies up by 15 percent as compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. While United has no new routes to the Asia-Pacific region launching in the summer, it has resumed or added a few routes already that will continue to operate through the season and beyond:
- Denver to Tokyo Narita
- San Francisco to Hong Kong
- Washington Dulles to Tokyo Haneda
- Los Angeles to Tokyo Haneda
These routes will come in conjunction with twice-daily service between San Francisco and Seoul. Furthermore, the airline will operate an expanded schedule to Australia this summer to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

Conclusion
As worldwide travel continues to rebound, United is going full-steam ahead with its international network this summer. The significant increase in international bookings combined with more than 100 international cities scheduled to see United Airlines flights this summer signals quite a historic upcoming year for the airline.
