JetBlue Airways announced drastic changes to its TrueBlue loyalty program, adding four different layers of Mosaic status. The airline’s updated loyalty program now expands the ability to earn perks when flying and interacting with JetBlue and its partners while also including benefits for non-frequent flyers.
Introducing Tiles
JetBlue’s previous loyalty program utilized Mosaic qualifying points to earn two different tiers of status, Mosaic and Mosaic+. One could also achieve status by spending a certain amount on a JetBlue co-branded credit card.
With the new TrueBlue program, frequent flyers must accumulate Tiles to earn that coveted status. Tiles, thoughtfully named as many tiles create a Mosaic, are similar to United Airlines Premier Qualifying Points or American Airlines Loyalty Points.
Travelers acquire Tiles in two different ways.
- Earn 1 Tile for $100 spent on JetBlue Purchases. These purchases include flights, JetBlue Vacation Packages, JetBlue Fees, Paisley by JetBlue, and JetBlue add—ons. Money spent on codeshare flights operated by American Airlines will also count towards Tiles.
- Earn 1 Tile for every $1000 spent on JetBlue co-branded credit cards.
Like other airline loyalty programs, Tiles are earned through eligible activities between January 1 and December 31 each year. Any status earned is active from the time of qualification until December 31 of the following year. As such, travelers began earning Tiles for 2024 Mosaic Status on January 1, 2023, even though the program didn’t officially launch until May 10.
How to Achieve Mosaic Status
JetBlue launches four different tiers of status as defined by the amount of Tiles a travel accrues. To earn status in 2023 and beyond, travelers will need to earn the following amount of Tiles between January 1 and December 31 of the given year:
- Mosaic Level 1: 50 Tiles (equivalent to $5,000 in JetBlue Spending or $50,000 in JetBlue branded card spending)
- Mosaic Level 2: 100 Tiles (equivalent to $10,000 in JetBlue Spending or $100,000 in JetBlue branded card spending)
- Mosaic Level 3: 150 Tiles (equivalent to $15,000 in JetBlue Spending or $150,000 in JetBlue branded card spending)
- Mosaic Level 4: 250 Tiles (equivalent to $25,000 in JetBlue Spending or $250,000 in JetBlue branded card spending)
JetBlue’s new program mimics many of its major competitors as it now includes multiple layers of elite status. Unlike its competitors, the $25,000 needed to reach the highest status level is much lower than the amount required to achieve the highest status tier on Delta or United, for example. However, as you climb the ranks of JetBlue’s new Mosaic Program, the travel perks aren’t as lucrative as United or Delta.
Mosaic Status Perks and Rewards
Once you earn 50 Tiles, you’ll earn Mosaic status. With this title comes a variety of “Mosaic Signature Perks.” The higher you climb, the more perks you are eligible for.
As a Mosaic Level 1 Member, you earn the following perks:
- Mosaic boarding (Priority boarding)
- Two Free checked bags
- Free beer, wine, and liquor onboard
- Free Even More Space seats at Check-in
- Priority Security
- Dedicated Check-in Areas
- Priority support line
- Complimentary upgrades on Heathrow Express
- Free same-day switches
As a Mosaic Level 2 Member (Earning 100 Tiles), you earn all the perks of a Level 1 Member as well as the following:
- Free Even More Space Seats during Booking
As a Mosaic Level 3 Member (Earning 150 Tiles), you earn all the perks of a Level 1 and 2 Member as well as the following:
- Four “Move to Mint” certificates that offer complimentary upgrades from core to Mint Business Class
As a Mosaic Level 4 Member (Earning 250 Tiles), you earn all the perks of a Level 1, 2, and 3 Member as well as the following:
- Two additional “Move to Mint” Certificates
- Four complimentary seats on Blade Helicopter transfers between Manhattan and John. F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Additional to the standard perks of each Mosaic Status level, JetBlue is also providing additional rewards each time you cross a Mosaic Tier. Mosaic Members have the option to select one perk from the following Menu each time they qualify for a tier of status:
-20-Tile bonus
-15,000 TrueBlue Point Bonus
-Mint Suite Priority
-Pet Fee Wavier
-$99 statement credit on the JetBlue Plus Card and the JetBlue Business Card
-FoundersCard Blue Membership
JetBlue only allows you to choose each perk once per calendar year, meaning you would be unable to stock up on 15,000 TrueBlue point bonuses if you crossed multiple Mosaic Tiers.
The bonus perks you selected also expire Dec. 31 the year after you earned them.
Earn Perks without Status
JetBlue is following in American Airlines’ footsteps and introducing perks for frequent flyers before they hit Mosaic status. Traditionally, you would have to achieve Mosaic Status before you were given any perks. With this new enhancement, frequent flyers can still earn perks even if they don’t have enough Tiles for full Mosaic Status. Travelers that earn 10, 20, 30, or 40 Tiles are eligible to select certain perks off of the following “Perks You Pick” Menu:
- Group B Boarding
- Priority security
- One free alcoholic drink per flight
- Two times the points for a JetBlue Vacations Package
- 5,000 TrueBlue Points
JetBlue noted that you can only pick one perk for every 10 Tiles earned, and you cannot pick the same perk multiple times as you acquire more Tiles. Like Mosaic status, the Perks earned will expire on Dec. 31 of the year after you earn them.
Transitioning to the New System
With the program launched in the middle of the calendar year, JetBlue will automatically convert all travel and credit card spending from Jan. 1, 2023, onward into Tiles. If travelers have already spent enough to earn perks from the “Perks you Pick” Menu, they will be able to make selections immediately.
Regarding Mosaic Status, JetBlue will examine your spending from 2022 and convert it into Tiles, awarding you the appropriate Mosaic Tier for the rest of 2023.
