Frontier Airlines has launched a new option that allows passengers to cancel any flight up to 24 hours before departure, giving travelers added flexibility when booking through the carrier. The product, called Cancel For Any Reason, is powered by HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions) and is available as an add-on during the booking process.
The offering marks a shift for the Denver-based ultra-low-cost carrier, which has traditionally operated under strict fare rules common among budget airlines. Now, travelers who purchase the add-on can cancel their reservation for any reason and receive a partial refund back to their original form of payment.
How The New Product Works
Passengers who add Cancel For Any Reason to their booking can cancel their flight up to 24 hours before scheduled departure. Upon cancellation, travelers receive a refund of between 50% and 90% of the cost of their ticket, returned to the original payment method. The exact refund percentage depends on the specific fare and route.
The add-on is available at the time of booking and covers the entire reservation. Unlike traditional travel insurance products that require documentation of a covered reason, this option requires no explanation. Whether plans change due to work, family matters, or simply a change of mind, the cancellation is honored.
Frontier partnered with Hopper Technology Solutions to power the product. Hopper has built its reputation on flexible travel offerings, and its technology now backs Frontier's new cancellation feature.

Statements From Frontier And Hopper
Bobby Schroeter, Chief Commercial Officer at Frontier Airlines, commented on the launch in the carrier's official announcement.
"Giving customers more choice and flexibility is an important part of how we're improving the Frontier experience. Cancel for Any Reason makes it easier to book with confidence, knowing that if plans change, customers have a simple and convenient option available to them."
Ella Alkalay Schriber, SVP & GM of Fintech at HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions) added:
“Today’s travelers want the freedom to change their minds and their travel plans. Frontier is setting the standard for customer-centric flexibility solutions by offering both Disruption Assistance for Any Reason and Cancel for Any Reason powered by HTS”
Analysis: How Spirit Airlines Changed Airline Pricing, then Paid the Price
Context Within The Ultra-Low-Cost Model
Ultra-low-cost carriers like Frontier typically build their business models around unbundled pricing, where passengers pay separately for services such as seat selection, baggage, and priority boarding. Cancellation and change fees have long been a source of revenue for these airlines, and rigid ticket rules have often frustrated travelers who need to adjust plans.
By offering Cancel For Any Reason as an optional add-on, Frontier maintains its low base fare structure while giving passengers the choice to pay for flexibility. Those who are confident in their travel plans can skip the add-on and keep costs low, while those who want a safety net can purchase it during booking.
The move also aligns Frontier with broader industry trends. Following the pandemic, many carriers eliminated change fees on standard fares, though ultra-low-cost carriers have generally maintained their fee structures. This product allows Frontier to offer flexibility without abandoning its core pricing strategy.
What Travelers Should Know Before Booking
If you are considering the new option, keep a few points in mind. The add-on must be purchased at the time of booking. It cannot be added later, so travelers who anticipate any uncertainty in their plans should evaluate the cost during checkout.
The refund amount varies, so review the specific terms displayed during the booking process. The refund percentage will be clearly presented before you complete your purchase, allowing you to weigh whether the added cost is worthwhile for your specific itinerary.
Cancellations must be completed at least 24 hours before departure. Passengers who miss the cancellation window will not be eligible for the refund, so timing matters. The refund is issued to the original form of payment, avoiding the travel credits or vouchers that many airlines default to for canceled bookings.

The Broader Partnership With Hopper
Hopper Technology Solutions provides fintech products to airlines, hotels, and other travel companies. The company has developed a suite of tools that include price freeze options, refundable ticket upgrades, and cancellation guarantees. Its partnership with Frontier expands the reach of these products in the North American market.
For Frontier, the collaboration provides a way to offer new features without building the underlying technology in-house. Hopper handles the risk assessment and refund mechanics, while Frontier integrates the product into its booking flow.
Looking Ahead
Frontier operates flights across the United States and to select international destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Cancel For Any Reason product is now available on eligible bookings made through the airline's website and app.
The addition reflects a growing recognition among carriers that flexibility has become a key factor in booking decisions. For travelers who value the ability to change plans without financial loss, the new option provides a straightforward path to that flexibility, backed by clear terms and a defined refund structure.
Whether the product proves popular with Frontier's cost-conscious customer base remains to be seen, but the launch signals that even the most price-focused carriers are finding ways to accommodate travelers who want more control over their bookings.
