BermudAir's 1st Birthday: The Story of Bermuda's 1st Airline

BermudAir's 1st Birthday: The Story of Bermuda's 1st Airline

BY JAYANT UPPAL Published on September 23, 2024 6 COMMENTS

Creativity and innovation are necessary to evolve and succeed in the current times, for lack of such factors could lead to stagnation. BermudAir Ltd – an airline operating from L.F. Wade International Airport in St. George, Bermuda, has defined new ways to remain prominent. The first locally established Bermudian airline completes one year of operations.

BermudAir Raises $1 Million

A couple of months ago, it raised 1 million dollars through a tokenized bond issuance via obligate, an on-chain capital markets platform with the help of XBTO – a full-service digital assets provider licensed by Bermuda Monetary Authority. It is the first airline to adopt such a method.

On the forefront, this may seem an unconventional approach for an airline, but it is efficient to leverage crypto finance options to expand rapidly.

The Beginning

BermudAir received its AOC from the Bermudian Civil Aviation Authority in July 2023, followed by US DOT approval in August 2023. It soon commenced operations within over three weeks, the drive and ambition from the start.

However, upon hearing the name – Bermuda, the first thing on anyone’s mind is the Bermuda Triangle, and fear takes over. Moreover, it is a bold move by BermudAir to serve passengers willing to fly to and fro Bermuda, and no doubt the self-belief.

Destinations and Fleet

Starting from its hub and flying to destinations in the East Coast United States and Canada, here is the list:

United States

Baltimore – Baltimore/Washington International Airport

Boston – Logan International Airport

Fort Lauderdale – Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport

Orlando – Orlando International Airport

White Plains – Westchester County Airport

Canada

Halifax – Halifax Stanfield International Airport

Toronto – Toronto Pearson International Airport

There is a scope to expand the route to further destinations in the East Coast United States and Canada, and even the mid-west depending on how and when the airline puts in the plan because it would need to increase its fleet.

Currently, BermudAir has leased two Embraer 175 aircraft offering complimentary onboard wi-fi, beverages, snacks, and light meals served onboard, curated by local partners in Bermuda.

Celebrating the First Year

To celebrate its first year, the airline ran promotions this month for its loyal customers with terms and conditions. Tourism brings a valuable economic impact as it creates revenue for the destination through public transport and boosts SMEs, creating a multiplier effect.

Therefore, BermudAir is playing a massive role in giving rise to Bermuda’s Fall Tourism, bringing more visitors to the island during the off-season, particularly in the last two months when tourists rarely visit the island country. It aims to make Bermuda a year-round destination.

The airline has flown 2000 flights over the past year with an efficient workforce of 90 professional positions, with 85% of the jobs in Bermuda. With the motive of community building with local schools, internship programs, and career fairs, it wants to showcase outstanding Bermudian hospitality.

Unlimited Flight Pass

For its completion of one year, BermudAir launched the ‘Unlimited Flight Pass’ this month with a one-time upfront fee for a limited-time offer until September 30 to fly between September 15 and December 15. The pass costs $2999 for individual travelers and $3498 for two travelers with unlimited travel on BermudAir routes.

BermudAir’s first year has been of subtle and steady growth, stability, the right partnerships, and efficient customer service.

I fell in love with planes when I was five, the first time I flew in 1994. I travelled from India to the United States of America, from Delhi to New York – John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and I have been flying ever since. Now, if someone asks me where do you live? I happily reply-usually, I juggle between airports and in the sky.
