LISBON — TAP Air Portugal has officially confirmed its return to the Sunshine State’s interior with the announcement of a new nonstop service between Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) and Orlando International Airport (MCO). Revealed during the Lisbon Tourism Fair (BTL) on February 26, 2026, the new route marks a significant milestone in the carrier’s "strategic approach" to the North American market, solidifying its position as a leading bridge between Europe and the Americas.
The service, set to inaugurate on October 29, 2026, will operate three times weekly. This expansion brings TAP’s total U.S. gateways to nine, joining its existing operations in Miami, New York, Newark, Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Los Angeles. By targeting Orlando, TAP aims to capture the high demand for both leisure travel to Central Florida’s world-renowned theme parks and the significant Portuguese diaspora residing in the region.

Strategic Transatlantic Growth
The decision to add Orlando comes as part of a broader 2026 growth strategy unveiled by TAP CEO Luís Rodrigues. During the announcement, Rodrigues emphasized that the United States remains a cornerstone of the airline's profitability and network resilience. He noted that the airline's expansion is designed to utilize its modern fleet of Airbus A330neo and A321LR aircraft to serve "long and thin" routes and high-demand hubs alike.
Reflecting on the airline's aggressive pursuit of the U.S. market, Rodrigues stated:
"The airline cannot hide from the United States."
This sentiment is backed by the airline's recent success in extending seasonal routes, such as the Los Angeles–Lisbon service, to year-round operations and its increased focus on connecting secondary Portuguese hubs like Porto directly to North American cities.

Aircraft and On-Board Experience
The Orlando route will be served by a rotating schedule of TAP's long-haul fleet. On Thursdays and Saturdays, the state-of-the-art Airbus A330-900neo will operate the mission, featuring the "Airspace by Airbus" cabin known for its quiet environment and updated lie-flat Business Class pods. Monday frequencies are currently scheduled to be operated by the Airbus A330-200.
The new service also introduces TAP’s refined 2026 "Intermediate Cabin" concept. Positioned between Business and Economy, this product offers "neighbor-free" guarantees in the front of the economy section, alongside priority boarding and an enhanced meal service, catering to the growing segment of premium-leisure travelers.

Future Network Outlook

The airline has hinted that if the initial 3-times-weekly frequency meets performance targets during the first quarter of operations, capacity could be adjusted or expanded for the Summer 2027 season. This expansion coincides with a €20 million investment in the airline’s Porto hub, which will see new routes to Tel Aviv and Cape Verde launched later this year.
