Hawaiian Airlines launched Huaka’i by Hawaiian, a free discount program for Hawaii residents.
Members can enjoy a whole suite of discounts and benefits, including a free checked bag on all Neighbor Island flights, and either 10% or 20% off one Neighbor Island flight every three months.
In addition, members will have access to other network-wide deals, which will be updated monthly.
To register, Hawaii residents must only enter their Hawaiian Airlines frequent flyer account number and a Hawaii mailing address at HawaiianAirlines.com/Huakai.
Up to 20% Off Neighbor Island Flights
Hawaiian Airlines is offering two major discounts that Hawaii locals will no doubt take advantage of for inter-island travel. Beginning on December 18th, Hawaiian will email registered members of the Huaka’i program special Neighbor Island discount codes for travel starting on January 8th, 2025.
The discount varies between 10 and 20 percent, depending on whether a member holds a Hawaiian Airlines credit card. Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard cardholders will receive a quarterly 20% flight discount, whereas those without the card will be granted a 10% discount.
These discounts can be applied to one-way or roundtrip tickets between the Hawaiian Islands on either economy or first-class tickets. Emails with the latest discount code will be emailed to Huaka’i members on the first day of the month prior to the start of a new quarter.
Free Checked Bags and More Deals to Come
In addition, Hawaiian Airlines is granting Hawaiian locals free checked bags on all Neighbor Island flights starting on January 8th, 2025. This allowance includes oversized items, including surfboards, golf bags, and other sports equipment.
Huaka’i members will also be the first to know about fare discounts for flights across Hawaiian’s domestic and international networks. The carrier plans to unveil more details about this side of the program in January.
Speaking on the announcement, Hawaiian Airlines CEO Joe Sprague said: “Huaka’i by Hawaiian is our special way to mahalo Hawai’i residents for their support of our airline, and to further acknowledge our vital role in bringing our island communities together for now 95 years.”
“Kama’āina who already enjoy our superior service and convenient schedule of some 150 daily Neighbor Island flights will find it even easier to travel between the island to visit family and friends, do business, or take a staycation.”
Hawaiian’s Spin on Alaska’s Club 49
Since merging with Alaska Airlines in September of 2024, Hawaiian has begun to incorporate some of Alaska’s programs and benefits for its frequent flyers.
Most notably, Hawaiian’s Huaka’i program closely resembles Alaska’s Club 49, a dedicated program for residents of Alaska introduced in 2011.

Club 49 members and those traveling on the same reservation can check two bags for free when traveling to or from Alaska on Alaska Airlines. In addition, members can ship up to 100 pounds of cargo for only $49 in Alaska.
In terms of discounts, those a part of Club 49 receive two ‘Travel Now’ discounts per year, good for 30% off one-way travel in Alaska’s refundable Y-Class fare to, from, or within Alaska on Alaska Airlines. However, the discount only applies to tickets booked within four days of departure, imposing some restrictions on usage.
“Club 49 was widely popular right out of the gate because people felt it as a benefit to their Walle, and it’s remained popular ever since,” Sprague told The Honolulu Star.
“The thing that it has done for us, and I hope Huaka’i by Hawaiian does something similar, it has really further anchored Alaska Airlines to the state of Alaska. Taking a page out of the Club 49 playbook, we thought tat a resident-only program would be an important way to do that.”
