Emirates Extends New Cabin Refresh and Premium Economy to Major Cities

ccelerated its multi-billion dollar cabin enhancement program, today confirming a massive expansion of its latest "signature" onboard experiences to more global gateways. The airline’s multi-year retrofit initiative, known internally as Project Phoenix, is set to reach 99 destinations by the end of 2026, bringing the highly coveted Premium Economy cabin and refreshed Business Class interiors to North America, Europe, and Asia.

In a landmark update for the U.S. market, Emirates confirmed that New York’s John F. Kennedy International (JFK) will see an increase in retrofitted aircraft deployments. Starting this spring, the airline's flagship flights EK201 and EK202 will transition to the four-class retrofitted Airbus A380, featuring the airline’s latest cabin hardware. This move standardises the premium experience across the Atlantic, following the successful integration of Premium Economy on other JFK and Newark rotations earlier this year.

The New Standard of Long-Haul Travel

The latest expansion is not limited to the "Superjumbo" A380. Emirates has officially launched its new Airbus A350-900 on the Dubai-Montreal route this month, marking the first time this aircraft type has been deployed to the Americas. The A350 brings a generational leap in passenger comfort, including quieter cabins, wider aisles, and 4K entertainment screens across all classes.

An Emirates spokesperson emphasised the strategic importance of this rollout:

"The introduction of the A350 brings Canadian travellers expanded access to Emirates' signature Premium Economy cabin, offering greater choice and enhanced comfort on long-haul journeys."

Furthermore, the airline continues its "arduous" task of retrofitting its existing Boeing 777-300ER fleet. These aircraft are being fitted with a new Business Class inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, featuring a 1-2-1 seating configuration that ensures every passenger has direct aisle access, a significant upgrade from the previous 2-3-2 layout.

Global Rollout and Impacted Operations

From Zurich to Ho Chi Minh City, the airline is reshuffling its fleet to ensure that the "latest cabin experience" becomes the default for premium travellers. The following table details the key flight updates and operating schedules for routes recently or soon to be upgraded with the newest cabin configurations as of February 2026.

Future-Proofing the Fleet

As part of the broader strategy, Emirates is reconfiguring its first high-density, two-class A380 into a three-class layout featuring 56 Premium Economy seats. This specific aircraft is slated to enter service by mid-April, initially serving regional high-volume routes like Dubai-Amman before moving to European sectors such as Prague.

The airline’s commitment to consistency remains the driving force behind these updates. As official reports indicate, "Emirates continues a large retrofit programme to standardise cabin offerings and introduce Premium Economy across more routes," ensuring that whether a passenger boards an A380 in New York or a Boeing 777 in Milan, the level of luxury remains unmistakably Emirates.
