Traveling through Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) just got easier for dog owners. This May, the airport launched Dog Relais, a dedicated hotel for pets complete with spa treatments, premium lodges, and even video calls so owners can check in on their furry friends while away.
The facility offers two types of rooms. Standard lodges cost about €39.90 per night, while premium rooms run closer to €60. The higher tier adds extras like video call screens and treat dispensers so owners can stay connected, even from thousands of miles away.

Each lodge provides both indoor and outdoor space. The indoor rooms measure 4 square meters, while outdoor areas cover 10 square meters with sections that are both covered and open. The hotel has installed automatic water dispensers, radiant panel heating and cooling, and even background music to help pets relax.

Dog Relais isn’t just for overnight stays. Daycare services let dogs play and rest while their owners are at work, on layovers, or waiting for connecting flights. Grooming, dental cleaning, aromatherapy, and massages with arnica cream are also on the menu. The goal, the airport says, is to make the stay as comfortable as possible for every dog.

The hotel has 40 lodges in total. During Italy’s busy vacation month of August, all were fully booked. Two-thirds, on average, were reserved since May. There has been steady demand from travelers who refuse to leave their pets behind. To make it convenient, the airport even has a shuttle service between the terminals, parking lots, and the facility.
The launch comes as Italy introduces new rules for pet travel. Starting September 23, large dogs in crates will be allowed to fly inside the cabin on domestic flights. Dog Relais fits into this trend, reflecting how airports are adjusting to meet the needs of passengers traveling with animals.

For dog owners, the service offers peace of mind. Instead of scrambling for kennels or sitters, you can check your dog into a safe, comfortable hotel, know they’re being cared for by trained staff, and even see their face on a video call.
