After unveiling new seat models in the last year, Delta has continued to build upon and improve it's customer experience with a brand new nose-to-tail cabin design for its mainline fleet. The new seating materials, updated mood lighting and refreshed color palate will usher in a new aircraft interior that continues to build upon Delta's commitment to the customer.
Seats and Bulkheads
With Delta announcing new first-class seat models in the last year, the base of the seat is not changing with this new cabin refresh, but the elements and upholstery of the seat will be improved to match the new cabin design. New breathable materials such as wool headrests and extra memory foam padding (widebody jets only) will create a more comfortable and relaxing feel for customers on the refreshed jets.
A new color palate will also adorn the seats onboard the aircraft, with smartly blended branding. Softer and warmer colors akin to the heritage of the Delta brand will be implemented across the seats, as well as Delta widget logos and seat tags that create subtle distinctions between cabins.
The bulkheads on the fleet will also see changes to match the new seat motifs. The design known as the "Infinite Grid" will adorn solid bulkheads throughout the aircraft, as a reminder that, "No one better connects the world than Delta". For narrowbody aircraft such as the 757 that lack a full bulkhead dividing cabins, an under bin divider with a "Celestial Sky" pattern will serve as the division point.
Lighting
Across the new cabins, a new lighting program has been created to create a calming and inviting atmosphere for each Delta aircraft. A key point of this new system is that it has appropriate mood light settings for each phase of flight. Boarding will have a light setting that makes the cabin feel open and spacious, while mealtime settings create a softer and inviting tone, akin to a candlelit dinner. When the cabin is set for a period of sleep, the lighting system will mimic a sunset, taking away blue light for warm amber tones. Waking up will also be updated to be a slower process, brightening from a morning glow to full daylight.
Lavatories
An often overlooked aspect of an aircraft cabin, Delta will not leave it's lavatories out from this refresh program. Bright walls and an accent wall featuring the celestial sky pattern opposite of the mirror will be installed on overhauled aircraft. Lavatory cabinets will be redesigned with an "Azure Blue" color, and new smooth flooring with specks of color will be installed, promoting cleanliness and safe traction.
Summary and Launch Schedule
"Delta has a 100-year history of creating a customer experience that feels welcoming and thoughtful with intentional design elements woven into every aspect of a customer's travel," said Mauricio Parise, Vice President - Customer Experience Design. "As we embark on our next century of flying, this refreshed cabin interior infuses utility with beauty to create an atmosphere that feels fresh, elevated, and timeless while reflecting our customers' evolving tastes and expectations".
Delta is expected to roll out its first aircraft with the new cabin, a Boeing 757, later this fall as the aircraft is converted from a premium transcontinental configuration to a domestic configuration. The rest of the 757 transcontinental fleet will follow through the conversion program shortly after. Early in 2025, Delta expects it's first widebody, an ex-LATAM A350, to be released with the new cabin for revenue service. Further fleet enhancements beyond these initial fleets will be released as maintenance and refurbishment schedules allow throughout the next few years.
