Delta Air Lines Returns to Hong Kong With Full A350 Cabin Lineup

Delta Air Lines has resumed nonstop service between Los Angeles and Hong Kong, marking the carrier's return to the city after a five-year absence. The route reopens with the airline's full Airbus A350 cabin lineup, giving you four distinct seating options on one of the longest scheduled flights in Delta's network.

The relaunch positions Hong Kong as Delta's ninth destination in Asia and strengthens the carrier's transpacific operations from its Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) hub. For travelers heading to or from southern China, the service restores a direct connection that had been suspended during the pandemic era.

What the New Service Looks Like

Delta is operating the route with the Airbus A350-900, the same widebody it uses on premium long-haul markets such as Tokyo, Seoul, and Shanghai. The aircraft features four cabins, including Delta One suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin. This is the first time Delta has deployed its full A350 product on a Hong Kong route.

Delta One suites offer lie-flat seats with sliding privacy doors, designed for travelers who want a quieter, enclosed space on the long crossing. Delta Premium Select sits between business and economy, with wider seats, more recline, and upgraded meal service. Delta Comfort+ adds extra legroom and dedicated overhead bin space within the main cabin area, while the Main Cabin provides standard economy seating.

Flight Schedule

The Los Angeles to Hong Kong route operates daily, with timings built to support onward connections at both ends. Here are the current operating details:

DL 8Hong Kong (HKG) to Los Angeles (LAX)10:10 AM8:35 AM (same day)12h 25mDaily

Schedules are subject to seasonal adjustments. You should confirm exact times with Delta or your travel agent before booking, especially around holiday periods and northern hemisphere winter timetables.

Why Hong Kong Matters Again

Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) remains one of Asia's most important aviation hubs, with connections across mainland China, Southeast Asia, and Australia. By placing the A350 on the route, Delta signals it expects steady demand from both business and leisure travelers. The carrier already operates A350 service from LAX to Sydney, Tokyo Haneda, and Shanghai Pudong, so the Hong Kong addition fits into an established widebody pattern at the West Coast hub.

For travelers in the United States, Hong Kong serves as a practical gateway for trips into Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other Pearl River Delta destinations. The city's airport also offers same-terminal transfers to ferry services into mainland China, which can be useful if your final destination is not served by direct flights.

Onboard Experience

If you book Delta One, expect a turn-down service, noise-canceling headphones, and a Someone Somewhere amenity kit. The cabin uses a 1-2-1 layout, so every passenger has direct aisle access. Meals are designed by chefs in partnership with Delta's culinary team, and you can pre-select your main course before the flight through the Fly Delta app.

Premium Select passengers receive a dedicated check-in experience, priority boarding, and Westin Heavenly bedding. The cabin is laid out in a 2-4-2 configuration, with seats that recline further than standard economy and feature larger personal screens.

Comfort+ and Main Cabin travelers get complimentary meals, beer, wine, and spirits on the route, along with IFE featuring movies, television shows, and games. Free messaging is available through Delta's onboard Wi-Fi, and SkyMiles members can access free full Wi-Fi for browsing and streaming.

Connecting Options

At Los Angeles, the late-night Hong Kong departure connects with afternoon and evening arrivals from across Delta's domestic network, including flights from Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, and Seattle. If you are starting your trip from the East Coast, you can typically reach LAX with enough buffer time before the westbound departure.

On the Hong Kong end, Delta works with partners in the oneworld and codeshare ecosystem for onward travel into Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and other regional markets. You should check whether your itinerary involves a separate ticket, since baggage policies and connection protections can differ when carriers are not part of the same alliance.

Booking and Fares

Tickets are available through delta.com, the Fly Delta app, and travel agencies. SkyMiles members can redeem miles for award seats in all four cabins, with availability varying by date. Delta typically releases sale fares for new and resumed routes within the first few months of launch, so you may find competitive pricing if you book early in the schedule.

For business travelers, the route qualifies for Delta's corporate travel programs, and you can use SkyClub lounges at LAX before departure. Premium cabin passengers and eligible SkyMiles Medallion members receive complimentary access.

What to Watch Next

Delta has not announced additional Hong Kong frequencies, but the carrier's transpacific strategy continues to evolve as demand patterns stabilize. If load factors on the LAX route hold up, additional gateways could follow in coming schedule cycles. For now, the daily A350 service gives you a refreshed option for crossing the Pacific between southern California and Hong Kong, with a cabin lineup that matches Delta's other premium long-haul routes.
