According to an internal email attributed to JetBlue leadership and shared by aviation insider JonNYC on the social platform X, flight attendants who fly at least 150 hours in August can earn 4,000 Crewbucks, the airline's internal currency, which is redeemable for cash or flights. 

Simple Flying reported that this 4,000-Crewbuck bonus carries a cash value of $5,000 and JetBlue has not publicly clarified the exact exchange rate. A smaller bonus of 2,000 Crewbucks is being offered to crew members who log between 100 and 149 hours. Because JetBlue pays cabin crew on credit hours rather than block hours, with a standard monthly guarantee of 75 hours, qualifying for the top bonus would require flight attendants to work roughly double a typical month's schedule. The carrier has also reportedly continued offering "holiday pay," worth about double normal wages, to crew members who work on their days off.

To free up additional staff, JetBlue has reportedly directed flight attendants on temporary "special assignments" away from cabin duty, including instructors based at its training center in Florida, to return to flying. 

That directive was described in an internal communication leaked by aviation insider JonNYC on X, and the claim was labeled unconfirmed in the reporting; JetBlue does not appear to have independently verified it. Sources cited by JonNYC also said the airline has seen a rise in sickness and fatigue call-outs in recent weeks, further straining its ability to staff flights.

The bonus offer follows one of the most turbulent stretches in JetBlue's recent operating history. The carrier ranked among the airlines with the highest cancellation rates worldwide on multiple days last month, including one of its worst weeks for cancellations on record in early July, as storms repeatedly struck its busiest hubs. 

Severe thunderstorms across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic triggered repeated Federal Aviation Administration ground stops throughout July at airports including Boston Logan International, John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, Baltimore/Washington International, and Washington's Dulles and Reagan National airports. On one night, JetBlue grounded all flights inbound to JFK as storms swept the region. On July 22 alone, the airline canceled 257 flights, about a quarter of its schedule for the day, and delayed 373 more. 

Some stranded passengers in Boston reportedly slept in cots after their flights were canceled with no reasonable rebooking options. JetBlue has attributed the disruptions mainly to weather and air traffic control shortages, while acknowledging that its own crew staffing shortfalls have played a role.

Compounding the weather-driven setbacks, JetBlue's recovery has reportedly been slowed by flight crews left out of position, stranded at airports other than where they were next scheduled to work. Pilots have placed much of the blame on the airline's crew-scheduling software rather than on the weather itself. 

In a statement issued July 20, Captain Wayne Scales, chairman of JetBlue's Master Executive Council of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), said the carrier had cut its JFK operation by roughly half over a preceding weekend because "crews were unable to be positioned where they were needed most" amid outages in the company's scheduling system. JetBlue faced a smaller-scale scheduling failure in March as well.

The pilots' union has pressed JetBlue's management to invest in more reliable scheduling software, along with hotel accommodations and other resources to keep flights adequately staffed. The Transport Workers Union of America, which represents JetBlue flight attendants, has separately accused the airline of widespread understaffing.
