Rolls-Royce has started serial production of its Pearl 10X engine, marking a significant milestone in the development of the powerplant selected for Dassault Aviation's forthcoming Falcon 10X ultra-long-range business jet. The announcement signals the German-based business aviation division's readiness to support the Falcon 10X program as it moves toward entry into service.
The Pearl 10X represents the latest and most powerful member of the Pearl engine family, which already powers the Bombardier Global 5500, Global 6500, Global 7500, and Global 8000, as well as the Gulfstream G700 and G800. For enthusiasts tracking the next generation of large-cabin business aviation, the engine's progression from development to serial manufacture confirms Rolls-Royce's commitment to the segment.
Certification approaching
The engine program is advancing toward type certification, with Rolls-Royce reporting that testing activities have progressed significantly. The manufacturer has accumulated extensive ground and flight test hours on the Pearl 10X, including evaluation aboard its Boeing 747 flying testbed based in Tucson, Arizona.
Philipp Zeller, Senior Vice President, Dassault, Business Aviation at Rolls-Royce, confirmed the production ramp-up. The Pearl 10X delivers more than 18,000lb of thrust, making it the most powerful engine ever developed by Rolls-Royce for business aviation applications. The powerplant features the proven Advance2 engine core, which Rolls-Royce describes as the most efficient core in its thrust class.
Technical architecture
The engine incorporates a five-stage low-pressure turbine, a 10-stage high-pressure compressor, and a two-stage high-pressure turbine. The blisked low-pressure compressor contributes to improved aerodynamic efficiency, while the engine's architecture reflects lessons learned from the broader Pearl family.
A key design feature is the enlarged fan, which Rolls-Royce says delivers improved propulsive efficiency compared to earlier Pearl variants. The engine achieves a bypass ratio and pressure ratio tuned to the demands of ultra-long-range operations, where fuel burn and range directly influence the aircraft's competitive positioning.
The Pearl 10X is cleared to operate on 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), consistent with Rolls-Royce's broader commitment to supporting decarbonization efforts across its product portfolio. All Rolls-Royce business aviation engines produced today are certified for operation with SAF blends, and the Pearl 10X extends that capability.

Dassault partnership
Dassault Aviation selected the Pearl 10X in May 2021 as the exclusive powerplant for the Falcon 10X, a twin-engine business jet designed to compete at the top of the ultra-long-range market. The Falcon 10X is intended to offer a range of approximately 7,500nm at Mach 0.85, with a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925.
The aircraft will feature the largest cabin cross-section in business aviation, with Dassault emphasizing comfort, interior volume, and advanced avionics derived from the French manufacturer's fighter aircraft heritage. The Pearl 10X was selected to match the aircraft's performance ambitions, with Rolls-Royce tailoring the engine to meet Dassault's specific requirements for thrust, efficiency, and reliability.
Entry into service for the Falcon 10X has been publicly targeted for 2027, following earlier schedule adjustments. The movement of the Pearl 10X into serial production provides a clearer picture of the propulsion milestone within that broader program timeline.
How AI Quietly Became the Backbone of Today’s Aviation Industry
Flight testing progress
Rolls-Royce has conducted an extensive flight test campaign on its 747 flying testbed, which allows the engine to be evaluated across a wide range of altitudes, speeds, and operating conditions before it enters service on the Falcon 10X airframe. The flying testbed program has validated performance predictions and confirmed the engine's behavior across the operational envelope required for ultra-long-range missions.
Ground testing has included endurance runs, icing tests, and crosswind evaluations at facilities in Germany and elsewhere. Rolls-Royce has accumulated what it describes as several thousand hours of testing on Pearl 10X development engines, forming the basis for the certification submission to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Service network and support
Operators of Pearl-powered aircraft benefit from Rolls-Royce's CorporateCare Enhanced program, which provides comprehensive maintenance and support coverage. The company has invested in expanding its authorized service center network and digital tools to support in-service fleets, and these capabilities will extend to Pearl 10X operators once Falcon 10X deliveries commence.
The Pearl 10X benefits from engine health monitoring technology that collects operational data in flight and transmits it to Rolls-Royce for analysis. This capability allows the manufacturer to anticipate maintenance requirements and support operators in maximizing availability.
Market position
Rolls-Royce's business aviation portfolio has grown substantially over the past decade, with the Pearl family representing the backbone of its offering. The company reports that it has delivered more than 1,000 Pearl engines across the three variants currently in service, logging hundreds of thousands of flight hours.
The Pearl 10X extends the family's capability into higher thrust ratings required by the latest generation of ultra-long-range jets. For Dassault, the engine provides a differentiated option against competitors powered by Pratt and Whitney and GE Aerospace products.
As serial production begins, Rolls-Royce is positioning itself to meet Dassault's delivery schedule while continuing to pursue type certification. For enthusiasts, the Pearl 10X represents both an engineering achievement and a key enabler for one of the most anticipated business jets in development.
