Porter Airlines is accelerating its transborder expansion today with the announcement of a landmark move into the Texas market and a significant operational pivot in the American Midwest. As of February 18, 2026, the carrier has confirmed it will launch its first-ever service to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) this spring, while simultaneously shifting its long-standing Chicago operations from Midway to O'Hare International Airport (ORD) later this year.
These moves represent a dual-track strategy for the airline: capturing high-growth tech hubs with its new Embraer E195-E2 fleet and deepening connectivity for its downtown Toronto hub through Chicago’s primary aviation gateway.

The Texas Debut
Scheduled to commence on May 21, 2026, the new year-round service between Toronto Pearson and Austin marks Porter’s entry into the "Silicon Hills." The route will operate five times weekly, utilizing the airline's state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which is celebrated for its "no middle seat" configuration and free high-speed Wi-Fi.
Andrew Pierce, Vice President of Network Planning and Reporting at Porter Airlines, highlighted the strategic value of the new connection:
“Porter continues to offer more destinations and flights that complement existing schedules and connect travellers across North America through our hubs. Travellers want more options and, when flying with Porter, they receive an elevated level of care and service that makes getting there enjoyable and something to look forward to.”
Ghizlane Badawi, Chief Executive Officer of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the priority of international growth:
“Expanding international connectivity is a key priority for AUS, and we’re delighted to welcome this new nonstop service to Toronto, which will provide our travelers with more convenient options to connect for business, leisure, and beyond.”

The Chicago Shift
In a move that marks the end of an era and the beginning of a more connected future, Porter will transition its Chicago operations from Midway (MDW) to O’Hare International Airport (ORD) effective September 1, 2026. Porter has served the Chicago market from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) since 2008, but the move to O'Hare allows for a frequency increase to three daily flights.
The shift is strategically timed to coincide with the opening of the new U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) preclearance facility at Billy Bishop Airport. By landing at O'Hare, Porter passengers will benefit from easier access to Chicago’s primary business district and expanded connecting itineraries through Porter’s codeshare partnership with American Airlines.
Michael McMurray, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation, welcomed the transition:
“On behalf of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, we welcome Porter Airlines to the busiest airport in the United States, the nation's best-connected airport, and a rapidly growing hub for American Airlines, Porter's new codeshare partner. We look forward to years of strong service from Porter, further strengthening the connection between two of North America's greatest cities.”

Elevated Economy and Competitive Edge
As Porter expands its footprint, it continues to lean into its "Elevated Economy" value proposition. Unlike many North American carriers, Porter offers all passengers free beer and wine served in glassware, premium snacks, and a 2-2 cabin layout on all aircraft. With the 2026 expansion, Porter is positioning itself as the primary disruptor to legacy carriers on high-volume transborder routes.
The airline’s growth is further supported by its burgeoning fleet of Embraer E195-E2s, with additional deliveries expected throughout the 2026 fiscal year. This allows Porter to bridge the gap between regional convenience and transcontinental capability, effectively making "The Porter Way" a standard for travelers between Canada and the United States.
