Delta Air Lines has officially cemented its status as a global aviation powerhouse today, March 11, 2026, by finalizing the launch details for 11 high-profile long-haul nonstop routes. This massive expansion, which spans the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Asia, marks the largest transatlantic schedule in the carrier's history, totaling over 650 weekly flights to nearly 30 European destinations for the upcoming summer season.
Shifting the Map Toward Premium Leisure
The strategy behind this expansion is clear: Delta is leaning heavily into "premium leisure" travel. By connecting major U.S. hubs directly to secondary European markets like Porto and Olbia, the airline bypasses traditional European mega-hubs, offering travelers a more direct path to their final destinations.
Two of these new routes, Olbia and Malta, are the direct result of Delta’s first "Route Race," a unique initiative where SkyMiles members and employees voted on the airline's next destinations.
“We are continuing to add more choice and unique destinations, with new service to Malta and Sardinia, two destinations previously unserved from the US,” stated Paul Baldoni, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning. “And because these destinations were voted for, we can now say that our network is not just built for our most loyal customers, but by them.”

Elevated Onboard and Ground Experiences
Delta is not just adding pins to the map; it is redesigning the passenger journey. Travelers on these long-haul sectors will benefit from a significant investment in the "four-product" cabin, featuring Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin.
Culinary Collaboration: Delta has partnered with renowned Spanish chef José Andrés to curate menus for Delta One and First Class passengers, emphasizing authentic Mediterranean flavors.
Next-Gen Entertainment: A new partnership with YouTube provides ad-free access to curated content, while a tie-in with Crunchyroll brings extensive anime libraries to over 165,000 IFE screens.
Exclusive Lounges: To support this growth, new Delta One Lounges are opening in New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), Boston (BOS), and Seattle (SEA), offering spa treatments and three-course fine dining.
“Delta's growth isn't just about more places, it's about a more premium experience at every step,” according to the latest official reports from the airline's News Hub.
Middle Eastern and Asian Milestones
The return to Hong Kong from Los Angeles on June 6 reconnects a vital transpacific gateway that has been absent from Delta's map since 2018. Meanwhile, the launch of the Atlanta to Riyadh service in October represents a historic milestone as Delta's first-ever nonstop flight to Saudi Arabia. Covering approximately 11,721 km, this will become one of the longest sectors in the airline's global network, supported by its codeshare agreement with Saudia and a strategic partnership with Riyadh Air.
