Boston Couple Turns $1.32 Million Home Purchase Into Fully-Funded Seychelles Getaway

Boston Couple Turns $1.32 Million Home Purchase Into Fully-Funded Seychelles Getaway

For most homebuyers, closing on a property means new furniture, a fresh coat of paint, and a mortgage payment. For one Boston-area couple, it also meant a luxury family vacation halfway around the world – paid for entirely with points earned from the transaction itself.

Ngan, a registered nurse, and her husband Connor, a physician, recently moved back to the Boston area to be closer to family after the birth of their son. Their timeline for finding a new home was pushed up unexpectedly after a house fire forced them to accelerate the search. What began as a stressful scramble ended up generating an unusual silver lining: a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Seychelles.

The couple's route to that trip ran through RBN Rewards, a real estate platform that lets buyers earn reward points on property purchases, redeemable for travel and lifestyle experiences. Connor came across the platform while looking for ways to, in his words, "get some value back from the real estate transaction." After signing up, the couple was connected with a network of vetted local agents and went on to complete the purchase of their new home in Stoneham, Massachusetts.

The numbers were striking: their $1,320,000 home purchase generated 880,000 RBN Rewards points — enough to fully fund a family holiday to the Seychelles, with additional stopovers in Kenya and France along the way.

A Private-Island Escape

The centerpiece of the trip was a multi-day stay at the Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island, a remote private island resort reachable only by air. The family spent their days biking between secluded beaches, exploring the island's grounds, and visiting a tortoise sanctuary with their son.

Ngan called the Seychelles "a true paradise," with the family's time on Desroches Island standing out as the trip's highlight.

We felt like we were the only ones on this entire island and it truly was magnificent,

she said.

The timing carried extra meaning: the trip coincided with their son's birthday, and the Four Seasons team surprised the family with a birthday cake during their stay – a gesture Ngan said he "went wild" over.

Turning a Stressful Purchase Into a Simpler One

Beyond the trip itself, Ngan said the RBN Rewards platform eased what can often be one of the more stressful parts of homebuying: finding the right agent.

"There are thousands of real estate agents to choose from when you go on your own, but good ones are harder to find," she said.

Having someone else, in this case RBN Rewards, do the vetting for us helped save time and helped us find an agent who excels at their job.

That agent was Guy Coltaldi, an RBN participating agent the platform ranks among the top 2% of real estate professionals worldwide.

Ngan described the process of booking the trip with her earned points as similarly straightforward. "It was straightforward, similar to booking hotels online since the rewards are valued like currency," she said.

An Emerging Trend in Real Estate Rewards

The couple's experience points to a broader shift in how some buyers are approaching major purchases: not just as transactions, but as opportunities to earn benefits that extend well beyond the closing table. Platforms like RBN Rewards operate on the premise that a home purchase – often the largest single transaction in a person's life – can generate meaningful value in categories buyers might not immediately associate with real estate, from luxury travel to lifestyle experiences.

For Ngan and Connor, what started as an urgent, fire-driven house hunt ended with beach bike rides, a private tortoise sanctuary, and a birthday celebration on a remote island most travelers never get to see. It's a reminder that even the most stressful life events can, with the right approach, open unexpected doors.
