As of Tuesday 1st December, Blue air will be commencing direct flights between Bucharest International Airport and London Heathrow's terminal 2. Blue Air will be operating daily service between Romania and the UK with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The direct route between OTP and LHR will see Blue Air as the only ultra-low-cost at Heathrow with prices starting at only 29.99 EURO. Blue Air has taken the decision to remove slots at Luton Airport, ultimately prompting the Romanian carrier to open a new route to Heathrow.
Blue Air Romania's fastest growing and largest airline in terms of passenger volume; in Blue Air's 16 years of operating they have carried over 30 million passengers over 340 million kilometers. Their all-737 fleet is comprised of ten 737-800s, six 737-500s and two 737-300s. The 737-800 being used on the Heathrow route has a capacity of 189 passengers.

Krassimir Tanev, the Chief Commercial Officer at Blue Air said, "We are happy and thrilled to announce Blue Air direct flights between Bucharest and London-Heathrow, the largest airport in the UK and one of the most important airports in Europe and in the world, both in terms of passenger numbers and in terms of the network of connections offered". Due to Heathrow's diverse connections, this new destination will allow the Romanian low cost carrier to provide links with Hong Kong, New York, Dubai, Sydney, Beijing and many other major cities.
Blue Air will compete for passengers between Bucharest and London with another low-cost Romanian carrier, Tarom; this route will see the corridor between Romania and London develop as the two airlines compete for the cheapest fares. Blue Air's new slots at Heathrow could be the start of the low-cost wave occurring at Heathrow as Easyjet, a British low-cost carrier, have also applied for slots for the summer 2021 period.
