Aeroméxico Launches Nonstop Flights to Atlanta From Five Mexican Cities

Passengers in Atlanta will receive more opportunities to visit Mexico through the introduction of multiple new nonstop routes this year. Aeroméxico plans to launch direct flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) from five Mexican cities in 2024, with the first two routes having already commenced on January 8. Aeroméxico's regional subsidiary, Aeroméxico Connect, will operate these routes daily with Embraer E-190 aircraft that can accommodate 99 passengers.

This network expansion is possible due to a new partnership between Aeroméxico and Delta Air Lines. Atlanta-based passengers can also visit Mexico on Delta: the carrier serves Cancún (CUN), Cozumel (CZM), Los Cabos (SJD), Mexico City (MEX), and Monterrey (MTY). Delta plans to launch service to Tulum (TQO) on March 28. Furthermore, Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines have their own routes connecting Atlanta and Cancún.

Aeroméxico will introduce direct service to Atlanta from the following Mexican destinations:

• Guadalajara (GDL)
• Monterrey (MTY)
• Leon/Guanajuato (BJX)
• Mérida (MID)
• Querétaro (QRO)

The Guadalajara and Monterrey routes became operational on January 8, while the Leon/Guanajuato and Mérida services will launch on March 14. The Querétaro route is scheduled to begin sometime in the fall. Atlanta will be the first U.S. destination that Aeroméxico will serve from Leon/Guanajuato and Mérida, with the carrier already serving Detroit (DTW) from Querétaro and multiple U.S. cities from Guadalajara and Monterrey.

Passengers can visit 11 Mexican destinations directly from Atlanta once all the routes are introduced by the end of the year. Mexico and Georgia have a strong economic and diplomatic relationship, creating a strong demand for business travel between the two destinations. Mexico has a consulate in Atlanta, and Georgia has a trade office in Mexico City. The Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia and the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce provide opportunities for Atlanta-based businesses to operate in Mexico. 

Trade data released in 2020 highlights the strong commercial relationship between Georgia and Mexico. Georgia exported $3.09 billion worth of items and imported $9.14 billion from Mexico. The country was Georgia's 2nd largest import and 4th largest export market in the same year.

Giancarlo Mulinelli, Aeroméxico's Senior Vice President of Global Sales, said about the economic benefits of Atlanta-Mexico flights:

"We are very excited about this expansion of the Aeroméxico-Delta Joint Cooperation Agreement, which will allow us to bring Atlanta closer to five of Mexico's most important cities. Starting in January 2024, we will offer cross-border travelers more connectivity options, thus fulfilling one of our principal purposes."

The routes are expected to stay long-term based on the growing demand for travel and trade between Georgia and Mexico. Atlanta is not the only U.S. destination receiving more Aeroméxico service: the airline plans to add 12 other routes to American cities — mostly Delta Air Lines hubs — such as Boston (BOS), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), and Salt Lake City (SLC).
